Invercargill may not be famous as a tourist destination, but it does have a few hidden gems. The Bill Richardson Truck Museum is a vast collection of trucks from around the world. And although the average truck may not be considered all that thrilling, the sheer number of vehicles on display is quite a sight. And over the years there have been some truly beautiful truck designs.
These are only 2 rooms out of about 7 or 8 warehouse sized structures!
Some vehicles come from an era with no air in the tires, just a strip of rubber to help soften the bumps on the roads. Others used gas lamps rather than electric lights!
Afterwards we got taken for a ride in a gorgeous 1958 Edsel Citation, owned by vet nurse Sarah's aunt. Although infamous as commercial flop, it went on to become a real collectors item and is a brilliant car to cruise around town in listening to the Beach Boys!
We checked out another Invercargill highlight - the international class indoor velodrome, one of only 2 in New Zealand, and quite an impressive sight:
