Basil

Despite the almost failure of two basil crops due to our lack of summer this year, we still had enough of a harvest for my first attempt at home-made pesto.  I found this simple and brilliant recipe here.  Sure enough, it tastes like summer.  Mmmmm.

Knitting Project: Ripple Stitch Blanket

I had to wait a little while to take a picture of my knitting project, as you can see I now have a pretty model. I loved doing the blanket so much I did a much larger one in colourful machine-washable acrylic yarn. This one is New Zealand merino, of course (-:



It's simply repeated ripple stitch, which is perfect for knitting in the car between patients or while watching movies as you only have to deviate from plain knit and purl rows every 4th row. No pattern book required. I love it because it is so simple but looks intricate and has scalloped edges. Photo credits to Emily's Aunty Nikki.

Little Niece

On the 4th of September, our first niece arrived in the world - lovely Emily.
Congratulations, Jon and Sarah! Here she is in hospital, newborn.





And this was just yesterday, when we went to visit Emily at home. The new family are settled, happy and doing very well.
