We really enjoyed ourselves in New York, despite hotel troubles dogging us for most of the stay and shoe troubles for Char which reduced our walking abilities... Here are a few of our highlights before leaving Manhattan for the slower pace of New England:
Grand Central Station - it definitely beats Kings Cross for splendour!
Traditional hot dog stands (or 'dirty water dogs'!)... And a debt that makes anyone feel rich in comparison! Apparently the debt clock ran out of digits recently, but it's back with an extra '1' now...
Old and new coexisting in surprising harmony...
It's the centre of the economic and political world... We think this is Marine One (ie Obama's helicopter) - and that may even be Obama himself climbing aboard from out of his State Car. Who knows?! If only I had a better zoom lens.....
The centre of the financial world - there are many reminders though of the tragic events of Sept 11th 2001. The steel sculpture was acutally in the World Trade Centre plaza and was damaged as the building collapsed. It is now a memorial (among many) to the event. The site of the world trade centre is now a huge construction site, but it will be interesting to see what they build...
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge...
Katz Diner - where Harry Met Sally featured the infamous 'orgasm' scene. We met up with Jenn and Marlon for some interesting Jewish food - here's Char with her Matzo ball soup, while I went for the traditional Pastrami sandwich...
Festa de San Genarro... On for only a week in September but we were fortunate enough to be there for it. The whole of Little Italy becomes an Italian carnival, packed with people and delicious food...
Lucy's did a yummy fried chicken and sausage panini...
And we did manage to resist exploring the sideshows - the external artwork is usually far more entertaining than the actual exhibit - 'it's the flash that gets the cash' is apparently the sideshow motto...
Listening to Jazz in the park - where else but in New York can you get 2 competing Jazz bands in the same park?
And sunset over the city - while the Staten Island ferry chugs its way back and forth...

OMG, you had MATZO balls, Char!! Did you tarpow some for me? ;). I've been craving for it since the year 2000 when I last had it in Las Vegas although the best were the ones I had in LA in 1997.

Hi Mum, it was supposed to be genuine Matzo but I don't quite get the hype... I ordered them because you raved about them but it tastes like a chicken and rice ball in vege stock?
Tiff, we only went to Brooklyn Heights (mostly due to my feet), Williamsburg will have to be next time around. So much to see!
