Our first stop was New Haven, famous for being the home of Yale University. The house above is the Visitor's Centre, where there is a display of Yale history. I enjoyed seeing the old photographs of students, especially the dapper 'Whiffenpoofs'. They're the oldest collegiate a capella group in the States.
Yale also 'refined' rugby into the game of football, and invented the Frisbee from a habit of students flinging 'Frisbie' pie dishes.
We managed to join the daily tour, which was guided by an enthusiastic sophmore who took us through the campus and explained all about student life. Dave felt a few odd moments, as some of the colleges and campus buildings are similar to those in Cambridge!
Yale has a similar college system to Cambridge, though we both found it interesting that American universities have a tradition of assigning a room mate, at least in your first year. We both had rooms to ourselves at university.
One thing I liked was that you can walk on the grass (a big no-no in Cambridge and Oxford!). Although you don't really need to as there are paths all over the quad.
We had to duck under the cover of the rare books library as the skies opened up... a wet trip back to the car!
