So, we had quite a quiet tour around the Village. There are 25 original restored buildings and 4 reconstructed Shaker buildings, on their original site. It was fascinating to learn about the Shakers and their values, history and life in the village especially as our guide had been brought up by the last Shaker sisters in the village. Although he himself was not a Shaker, he grew up with 13 Shaker 'grandmothers' as his parents were close friends with the sisters.
The Meeting House:
Dormitory
Apothecary, where medicines and remedies were prepared.
A clever sign for the Print Shop.
I really enjoyed learning about Shaker life and their inclusive, ordered, entrepreneurial and cooperative spirit of times past.
