York is a charming city with ancient city walls, a stunning cathedral and lots of local attractions. It was a great place to stop and look for lunch and then for some adventures!
This is Clifford's Tower...
... which offers a nice view from the top! We joined English Heritage here, so we'll be able to visit lots of castles and historical sites like Stonehenge as often as we like in the next 15 months.
We escaped the rail and spent the rest of the afternoon at the National Railway Museum, where Dave visited as a young boy. Unfortunately, his favourite train the Mallard didn't appear to be on show but maybe it will be there next time we visit.
The latest craze in UK busking is tricks with crystal balls. I will generously tip the first busker I see dressed as David Bowie as the Goblin King from Labyrinth... York is also the birthplace of Guy Fawkes. And we were amused (but not surprised) to see some hardy Yorkshire folks drinking their pints in the rain!
