The Nor'west arch - with its amazing display of lenticular clouds (great for gliding!) - has been covering Christchurch for a few days, and cold rainy weather has brought on Autumn with a dramatic suddeness.
We had a little walk around the patch of native forest in Christchurch, known as Riccarton Bush. Amazingly, it has by far the most impressive security system I've ever seen for a patch of tangled woodland! It even has a buzzer entry system that only allows one door to open at a time. Ridiculously over the top, but that's New Zealand when it comes to conservation...
It is nice inside...
Outside sits Riccarton House - a grand affair - and Dean's Cottage. The cottage is less impressive but is the oldest surviving building in Canterbury...
Some wetland birds were also busy with Autumn preparations. Although we were suprised this swan had cygnets so late in the year...
