Our last 'new' stop on our epic North Island trip was Napier, where we caught up with my sister Yi Lin. She was completing the last few days of her hospital placement - she's studying to be an Occupational Therapist. We met up by the waterfront and enjoyed wandering about as well as indulging in some of our favourite pizza. Mmmm.
This is the statue of Pania, a Maori sea maiden lured to live on land by a handsome chief. She's perhaps a little similar to Copenhagen's Little Mermaid?
Dave and I enjoyed walking along the rocky beach. I borrowed a bit of beard just to try... and we found an interesting driftwood sculpture and some handy pumice.
Napier's got lots of pretty art deco influence due to rebuilding in the popular style after the Napier Earthquake destroyed much of the city's buildings.
We even found a Love Tree!
