The last night of Mum's visit we visited a traditional Maori show, called Ko Tane, put on at Willowbank. They had some fun with us, performing a traditional 'greeting' for unknown strangers involving a lot of shouting and stick twirling. Pretty intimidating stuff!
Some old favourites, such as a 'haka', were used, along with more recent additions such as a Maori version of the 'Hokey-Cokey'. Char and I then realised that this beloved song has a different name in New Zealand - the 'Hokey-Pokey'. Any suggestions on the reasons for this much appreciated!
