Peak Park

We had a wonderful time a week or so ago visiting Chris and Sophie in the Peak district. We both forgot to take our cameras for once, so the pics are limited to a few mobile phone efforts, but it still is a beautiful area to visit. Char even got to try her first - and probably last - Bakewell Pudding (forerunner of the slightly more famous Bakewell Tart)!

Below is Chatsworth House, famous as a location for the Pride and Prejudice movie among other things.



Another Derbyshire speciality is well-dressing. Each well in the village is decorated. Flower petals are pressed into a clay tablet to create the images, sometimes with words, or religious, political or general themes. These are some of the dressings from Pilsley Village:





We then went down Speedwell Cavern - an old, flooded lead mine. We travelled at least 500m down these low, dark and echoey tunnels a rather unstable boat before finally arriving at the cavern. Fortunately the guide's sense of humour prevented it from getting dull! I had to borrow this pic, as the mobile phone wasn't up to this job!
