Jon lives and works in RAF Honington and was kind enough to show Dave and me around the Base. Here he is onboard a Churchill, an old flame-thrower tank capable of throwing a flame up to 150 yards. Intimidating!
Here is one of the hangars, the door alone is enormous and made of steel, it has its own tracks so that it can slide sideways.
Sarah and Jon took us on an excursion out to Dunwich. We walked along the pebble beach trying to skip stones into the sea and then walked up the cliff steps and through the woods with the medieval friary ruins (medieval Dunwich is now entirely under the sea due to continous erosion of the coastline). We also walked through the heath and enjoyed the scent of the gorse blossoms. I've realised that I've never really stopped and smelt gorse blossoms, it's a plant that is considered a pest in New Zealand as homesick colonists brought it over and it took over the native countryside and farmland. It smells like a heady combination of coconut, candles, and honey and cream.
