He'd been asked to treat a very special someone. We've decided not to disclose his name, but I was very privileged to be allowed to observe the consultation and take some discreet photos. Kakapo are critically endangered, large flightless parrots native to New Zealand. Needless to say they are very rare and not often sighted. Dave was a bit nervous about seeing this VIP (Very Important Parrot!). Understandably, as he had the responsibility of treating a New Zealand icon.
I was very taken with the bright plumage and owl-like eyes, which were endearing. He had three Department of Conservation handlers who'd carefully brought him from Codfish Island, which is offshore Stewart Island, after a mishap with his leg. Luckily Dave managed to diagnose and treat the problem, hopefully the kakapo will make a full recovery at home and not be worse for wear for his adventures. Go Dave! I'm proud of you! xxx

was this some kind of initiation for Dave?!
loved the VIP he's beautiful!
would Dave have been thrown out of NZ if the parrot hadn't pulled through? (heehee)
We don't simply let anyone handle our VIPs - this must be a memorable patient in Dave's book :). Old Henry next!
Ha ha, the joke is that Dave automatically gets residency for successfully treating the VIP... We thought about the consequences if he hadn't made it as well! Blacklisted?
OH MY GIDDY AUNT! My husband and I are huge kakapo fans, thanks to Sirocco and Stephen Fry's series. Yay for Dave! xx
Top Bird - It's actually Sirocco himself on the table! Naughty chap jumped on a DOC worker's leg and scared him so he got shaken off, hence the injury. Have only just watched the youtube clip with Stephen Fry - its brilliant! Will have to try and get hold of the full episode!
